The School Council

The School Council has been running successfully for quite a number of years now. Each class, with the exception of Nursery and Reception, choose a boy and a girl to represent the class on the Council. The Council Officers are then chosen by ballot. The whole school is involved in this and it runs just like a local election.
The school community feel it is important for the pupils to have a 'voice' and the School Council is an excellent way for this to happen.

Mrs Jarvis and Mr Ringwood help the council to run the meetings and they are there in an advisory capacity.
After each committee meeting, class representatives report back to their classes. They tell the class what was discussed and gather any responses to take back to Council. It is a continual two way process.

Some of the School Council were part of the interview process for both the Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher appointments. They had the opportunity to ask the candidates questions.
There is a 'Suggestion Box' in the hall where anybody, including staff, may post their ideas or their views and a noticeboard in the hall where minutes of meetings and other items of interest are displayed.
All School Council members wear badges so everyone in the school knows who they are.

"The School Council helps the School and makes us all happier." (Jack - Year 6)

"We can sort things that people are upset about." (Emma - Year 3)
